The forests are of both great economical and ecological importance. Therefore monitoring of elemental patterns in wood material is of importance for the detection of changes in the environment.By analysing annual growth rings of trees chemical information can be obtained about the growth site and conditions several hundred years back in time.A knowledge of the trace element content of wood is of importance for the development of industrial processes. For the trace element analyses of wood mainly thick target particle induced X-ray emission spectrometry (TTPIXE) is used.So far promising results have been obtained by the PIXE group.Parts of the results have been published.
