The aim of the present prokect is to identify transmissions mechanisms of F. psychrophilus and identify a possible virulence factor present on a 3.7 kb palasmid. The project plan is divided into 6 different sub-projects: 1) identify mechanisms for the transmissions of F. psychrophilus from fish to fish and from farm to farm, 2) identify mechanisms which causes the etablishment of "carrier state" of F. psychrophilus in fish, 3) estimate the survival capasity of "normal" and plasmidless constructions of F. psychrophilus in water during different conditions, 4) serologically, and biochemically characterize Finnish strains of F. psychrophilus, 5) construct the restriction map of the approximately 3,7 kb plasmid from F. psychriphilus isolated in different countries, 6) pathogenity of plasmidless constructions of F. psychophilus. The methods to be used for the detection and identification of the patoghen include immunofluoroscence antibody technique, PCR technique, flow cytometric method, plate count method.
