The research project is a phonological study of the urban varieties of the Swedish spoken in Finland.The towns of Jakobstad, Kristinestad, Ekenäs and Lovisa are included in the study.The purpose of the project is to study the growth of and the variation between the urban varieties by analysing the occurance of short quantity in tonic syllables.The aspects of frequency, structure and history are discussed.
