The aim of the study is to identify and analyze patterns in the meeting between 6-8 years old children and literacy.The aim is diveded to two problems: (1) How do children construct and organize meaning of written language? and (2) How do the meeting whith written language develop and change? -Totaly 40 children, born in 1986, participated in the study.The children are followed from pre-school to the second school-year, during a period of two years 1993-1995.Data consist of children's drawings, interviews, text and standised tests of intelligence and reading.The data analyses follows the principles of grounded theory and qualitative cathegories of description are created and illustrated in quantitative combinations.
