It is characterictic for Western philosophy of language and linguistics to hold a grammatical view of language, according to which all relevant linguistic phenomena could be captured by a presentation of language as a given syntactic-semantic system that forms the basis for the practical use of language.This view of language serves as the starting point for the cognitive approaches that are dominant in current language research.
