ABSTRACT: Tasa-arvolain nojalla nostetut syrjintäjutut, niin yhteydenotot tasa-arvovaltuutettuun kuin valitukset lääninoikeuksiinkin, ovat tyypillisesti tapauksia, joissa valittajalla on vielä toiveita saada kyseessä oleva virka itselleen.Yksityissektorilla tätä toivoa ei ole.Yleensä ei ole myöskään selkeitä pätevyysvaatimuksia.Toimintastrategia yksityissektorin valvonnassa muotoutuu pakostakin eri tavalla.Palkkaerot ovat suuret.Naisten erityisiä taitoja ja kykyjä ei arvosteta.Pitkä koulutuskaan ei tuota naisille hyviä tuloja. Discrimination cases raised on basis of the Law of Equal Opportunities, both contacts to the Equal Opportunities Ombudsman and complaints to administrative courts, are typical cases where the complainer still has hopes of getting the post which is under debate.In the private sector no such hope exists.Usually there are no clear competence requirements either.The private sector control system is bound to get a different form.The difference in wages is great. Women's special skills and abilities are not appreciated.Not even a long education will yield a good income for women.

ABSTRACT: In this report the Equality Committee presents a proposal for a law on equality between women and men in working life.The Committee is of the opinion that a law on equality between women and men must be seen in connection with all other equality work.In the proposal employers are first of all enjoined to obstain from sex discrimination of employees and job seekers (sec. 2).If an employer violates this ban, the aggrieved party will be enfitted to damages (sec. 5) etc.A special representative, to be known as the Equality Ombudsman, shall under the law that is proposed be enpowered to see to it that the law is enforced and to assist othervise in the endavours to achieve equality in working life.Each and everyone should be able to turn to the ombudsman with complaints in case the law has been transgressed.
