ABSTRACT: Multilateral standard-creating treaties are at the present time widely used as means of regulating, developing and modifying relations between different social, economic and legal systems.The present paper studies the role of these treaties in the process of norm-creation of international law.The study is divided into three parts: a general chapter on the role of treaties, a chapter on the method adopted by the International Court of Justice in the North Sea Continental Shelf Cases, and a chapter on the practice of the organs of the United States towards human rights treaties.

The Philip P.Jessup contest has been held in the USA since 1960.Jessup was a hihgly honoured American professor of international law, and he was a member of the International Court of Justice in 1961-70.The contest is open for all students of international law.For the first time a Finnish team participated in the contest.The article reports on the contest.

ABSTRACT: An interview with an ex CIA agent,David MacMichael, who now works in the International Court of Justice. He explains how the US uses the covert actions to influence elections of Nicaragua, and in which way they support the contras. He also explains the development of the covert action strategy after the second world war. MacMichael also evaluates the US policy towards the Esquipulas process, where the Central American presidents signed a threaty stating the disolution of the contra army. One week after the US made the bipartidarian agreement and aproved 100 million dollars ffor the contra. MacMillan claims that the main principle shared by both parties of the US congress is that they think it is necessary that the countries in Centra America and the Caribbean maintain obedient to the US policy.
